Q: Does Teeth Whitening really work?

A: Yes it does! Over the years Teeth become stained from Beverages like Tea, Coffe and fizzy drinks, rich foods and tobacco. These stains penetrate through microscopic pores in the tooth enamel which discolour the Dentin underneath the enamel. Our teeth whitening process removes these stains to give a lighter, brighter, healthier looking smile.

Q: How long does the treatment take?

A: Our treatment takes less than 1 Hour, we apply 4 X 10 Minute applications of our Advanced Whitening Gel and accelerate the process using our accelerator light. Together with Pre and Post treatment Consultation the treatment is usually done within the Hour.

Q: Does teeth whitening work on veneers, crowns, bridges and fillings?

A:  The Smile Centre's teeth whitening procedure will not whiten crowns, veneers, bridges or fillings however they will be restored to their original colour.

Q: Does Teeth Whitening damage the enamel of the teeth?

A:  Research shows there is no risk to the enamel of the teeth after using The Smile Centre's Teeth Whitening Treatment. Our aftercare gel also provides re-mineralisation to the enamel that helps strenghen the enamel when used after the intitial treatment.

Q: Is it safe and will it hurt?

A: The Smile Centre's procedure is completely safe gentle and effective. The procedure will not damage enamel or existing fillings. The majority of our clients experience no pain or sensitivity after the The Smile Centre Professional Teeth Whitening treatment. A very small percentage of customers may experience slight sensitivity to the gums for approximately 24 hours after treatment. We also reccomend avoiding hot drinks for 24 hours after the treatment if any sensitivity is experienced.

Q: How white will my teeth get?

A: The Smile Centre's treatment can achieve results of up to 16 shades lighter. The average shade difference with our 1 Hour treatment is 10 shades lighter. As everybody's teeth are slightly different ever client's teeth respond a little differently, but in most cases the results are impressive. During your Consultation our technician will discuss the results that you personally can expect to achieve.

Q: How long does the Teeth Lightening last?

A: The results last anything from 12 to 24 months. It all depends on the individual, if you smoke tobacco, or drink lots of red wine or coffee, these type of things all have an effect on the longevity of the treatment. If you go to the dentist on a regular basis and have regular cleanings then this will help keep the lightening effect. To maximise the results obtained during the procedure we reccomend the use of our aftercare range of products, we also provide a TOP UP service which clients can use between 3 to 6 months after the initial treatment.

Q: Is The Smile Clinic procedure for everyone?

A: Virtually anyone wanting to lighten their teeth can benefit from using The Smile Centre- including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains. Anyone over 16 years of age is suitable for the procedure, The Smile Centre however, recommends that you do not have our treatment while nursing or pregnant, or if you may be pregnant, or receiving orthodontic treatment, or have extensive dental work, such as veneers or crown/bridges. These factors will be reviewed by our technician's initial consultation.

Q: Who carries out the treatment and is it Legal?

A: All our teeth whitening technicians are fully trained by a Dentist in the Teeth Whitening System. Teeth Whitening has been defined as a Cosmetic treatment on 28 June 2001 by the House of Lords ruling in the case of Optident Limited and another versus The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. This means that they fall under the EU Cosmetics Directive (implemented in the UK by the UK Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations 1996). The legal definition of a cosmetic product is:

“any substance or preparation intended for placing in contact with the various external part of the human body or with the teeth and mucous membranes of the oral cavity with a view exclusively or principally to cleaning them, perfuming them or protecting them in order to keep them in good condition, change their appearance or correct body odours”

The Smile Clinic does not offer any Dental Treatment or Dental Advice to customers. Teeth Whitening is purely a Cosmetic Procedure as laid down in European Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC.

All the products we use have been tested and proved to be safe under the above EU Directive.
